UPCBAND NEWS!OMING
We are very excited to announce that Michael T. Ellerby will be joining the BHS marching band program as drumline coach for the 26/27 season. Mr. Ellerby was drum captain of the 1972 Anaheim Kingsmen winning the inaugural DCI world championship. Mr. Ellerby began his teaching and music writing career while still competing at the World Class level. He acquired the enviable record of no tics (mistakes) at any show on any of his national tours. He was a phenomenal snare technician and arranger throughout his corps years and now his career has blossomed out to include high school band arranging music, drum parts. and show design. He is also an accomplished judge and clinician. He founded the widely acclaimed Drums Across California (DAC) circuit to help improve the level of percussion evaluation at the high school level. More recently Mr. Ellerby was drumline and show design coach for both Mater Dei and Magnolia high schools taking both programs to SCSBOA sweepstakes wins. In addition to teaching private lessons on snare, drum set, vibes, piano, guitar, trumpet, flute, voice. etc. Mr. Ellerby is also an accomplished teacher of tennis lessons and classes in Dana Point, California.

Joining BHS as Band Director in Fall 2025
A 2008 BHS graduate, Mr. Ruvalcaba returns to Beckman High School where he played saxophone, bassoon, and particiapted in the choir program. He is graduate of Cal State Fullerton's School of Music and has passionately taught music locally and in Northern California for 10 years. In 2022, Jorge became a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory orchestral conducting program studying with Marin Alsop. Mr. Ruvalcaba has been an assistant conductor for the Peabody Youth Orchestra, the Peabody Symphony Orchestra, and the Peabody Chamber Orchestra as well as making conducting appearances with both the Hamburg School of Music’s Orchestra and the Elbphilharmonie. Mr. Ruvalcaba has appeared as a bassoonist with the Vallejo Symphony, Solano Symphony, Symphony Irvine, and San Bernardino Symphony. Welcome back to BHS, Mr. Ruvalcaba!
